About Claude Moore Scholars

Our Story

The Claude Moore Charitable Foundation was established in 1987 by Dr. Claude Moore, a successful physician and Northern Virginia landowner who left most of his fortune in trust for the purpose of enhancing educational opportunities throughout the Commonwealth and beyond.

The flagship program of Claude Moore Charitable Foundation is the Claude Moore Scholars Program. The Program focuses on broadening perspectives and opportunities in early education intervention to encourage students to pursue high demand, entry-level healthcare careers. The Claude Moore Charitable Foundation selects and advises grant recipients of the Scholars Program through a business-like model, and supports with school systems, community healthcare organizations and non-profit groups to further workforce training for identified areas of critical need in the healthcare industry. We've made a commitment to foster this program in every public high school in Virginia. Currently, CMCF funding serves 48 school districts in Virginia.

Our Mission

Our mission is to provide the necessary education and training so that, upon graduation from high school, students can enter the workforce in organizations that enable them to support themselves and their families, as well as assist with academic and professional development through “long-life learning” and growth.
